If you want to become a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA), you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Complete the offered by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE);
- Apply to write the RISIA Entry-to-Practice Exam (RISIA EPE), which includes submitting a scanned copy of a valid government-issued photo identification (ID);
- Successfully pass the College’s EPE; and
- Follow the licensing process to obtain your licence.
Once you are licensed, you must meet the College's requirements and complete the Ongoing Education for RISIAs (Mentoring Program).
Note
1. The ISIEP is for candidates who wish to hold a position at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) providing assistance to international students.
2. You will not be able to provide any immigration advice outside your employment at the Canadian DLI that hired you.
3. You will need to update the College if you are no longer employed as a RISIA by the Canadian DLI that had hired you.
4. RISIAs can only provide limited immigration advice to students, namely:
- Advice only in the areas of Study Permits, Temporary Resident Visas, and how Study Permits relate to other currently available Canadian immigration programs. No representation in immigration matters to any students is allowed.
- Referral of any student needing representation or immigration forms to be filled out to an RCIC or other authorized representative. No filling out of any immigration forms for any student is allowed.
